The History of the Most Known Luxury Watches in the World

Of course, if there is a well-known and iconic luxury watch brand par excellence, it is Rolex. In fact, in the popular imagination, even though there are many other luxury watch brands, Rolex has always been synonymous with luxury watch.
The history of the founding of Rolex is inevitably linked to that of its creator, a pioneering and innovative young man named Hans Wilsdorf. In 1905, at the age of 24, he founded a company specializing in the distribution of watches in London. At that time, his dream was to create a watch that could be worn on the wrist. Back then, wrist watches used to not be very accurate. But Wilsdorf thought that he could go on to create a reliable and elegant watch as well. For that reason, in order to convince people of the reliability of his new watches, he decided to equip them with a small, high-precision mechanism manufactured by a watchmaker in Bern in Switzerland.

On the other hand, Wilsdorf was also clear about the importance of a good name, the importance of the brand. His intention was for his watches to have a short name, easy to pronounce and remember in any language, and to look good on the dial.

Conscientiously, he tried combining the letters of the alphabet in every conceivable way. He got about 100 names but none of them seemed right to him. As he finally explained one morning as he was touring the Cheapside in the City of London aboard a horse-drawn tram, a genius whispered the word 'Rolex' in his ear.

Hans Wilsdorf concentrated on making his Rolexes the pinnacle of chronometric precision. And his efforts did not take long to bear fruit. In 1910, a Rolex received the first Swiss Official Chronometric Certificate that the Official Watch Rating Center in Bern ever awarded to a wristwatch.

And just four years later, in 1914, the Kew Observatory in Great Britain awarded the Rolex wristwatch a certificate of high precision. A certificate that until then was only delivered to marine chronometers. Since then, the Rolex wristwatch has stood for precision. The legend began.
